The Mingei

The Mingei is a group show featuring Japanese crafts, prints, and design, which explores the origin and history of the folklore movement, which was founded in the late 1920s by the philosopher and critic Soetsu Yanagi. The movement is based on the art of handcraft, and originally found its beauty in everyday ordinary objects and practical objects created by unknown and unknown artisans. Yanagi is very concerned about the functional quality of objects, which he describes as “honesty about its intended use”, which leads to the famous expression of “YOnoBI” or functional beauty. Through intuitive perception, all walks of life can appreciate the inner beauty of famous art.
