Joanne Chan: The Usefulness of Uselessness

“We only see what we want to see, it is a blindspot for everyone, in the pursuit of truth, we must leam to admit and let go. It is hard sometimes to face our emotions honestly, but acknowledging our true feelings is the very first step to understanding ourselves, thus we can unleam and undefine. A new beginning is ahead of us every second.” states by Joanne Chan

The Usefulness of Uselessness is the second solo exhibition of abstract Hong Kong artist Joanne Chan. The exhibition features her abstract paintings, ceramics and mixed media installations from 2015 to 2020, which will lead the viewers to an introverted journey of reflection.Alternating between useless and useless, the exhibition records daily discoveries on the road of spiritual practice. As our definition changes, our view of the world also changes. The pursuit of truth connected through the awareness of breathing is the way we desire and deepen our hearts. We realize and accept the fact that “change” will always be eternal. The fear is the self who refuses to accept the “change”.The artist hopes that the audience can find a peaceful place through various emotional turmoil.
